email notice of backup in progress

We have recently upgraded to DB2 9.7.

I understand that things get deprecated, like the Control Center and the DAS.

I have been trying to commit to using the Data Studio, but one thing still eludes me.

I have basic alert notices on some production systems, one of which is to simply send notice via email when a backup is in progress on a tablespace.
I have the DAS running and used the Control Center to set up this simply by defining contacts and a mail server address to use in the screens for defining an online maintenance window even though the backup in use is not an automatic backup.

I have not found where in the Data Studio to establish the same ability so I continue to use the DAS and Control Center for now.

So, how to do this without the DAS and Control Center?
