Hi.
i am new here and to databases in general. I am trying to create a database for my magazine collection as I currently store details in a combination of an excel spreadsheet and some word documents at the moment which is cumbersome at times as neither fully does what I need.
I have tried to create the framework for a database and before I start filling it will lots of data and entries I want to ensure I can do some of the basic things I need and hence I am here. Not for answers, but more to be pointed in the right direction.
---
I need to be able to display and sort my magazines by: Name, Year & Month in that order. So Glamour, April 2013 will come before Glamour, March 2013 and Prima, April 2000 for example.
My understanding is that this is done with a "Query" but I cannot understand how to do this. At the moment all I have fathomed is a basic structure with the data I need/want to store, a form to display/add/edit entries and a report which lists the basics of all the magazines stored (but again this is not sorted).
I have attached a copy of my database (Access 2007 format) to show what I have so far - the cover images will not work as they link to files on my hard drive and display directly from there.
If someone can give me an idea of how to accomplish what I want and the principles of doing it that would be great so I can try and get it to work.
Thanks
Andy
