Log File?

Hey guys...I just signed up and will likely lean on you all quite a bit. I am an OPs and IT Security guy now working on data warehouse maintenance and the like. Fairly green in this world. First question

1. What is my most basic way (syntax too please ;) to capture errors in a log file?
