Fighting spam - changing registration procedure?

The amount of useless spam has massively increased over the last few months (at least I feel that way).

I know several other forums which require new members to be moderated for their first frew posts (something around 1-3 posts), and I think this would help here as well.

Are there any plans by the moderators to do something against the spam postings?

If moderating new members is put in place I would volunteer to help out if that would be needed.
