Lock Tables

I'm a student at university, I have an end of year exam and am going over previous exam papers, forgive me if the answer is very simple but would like to check.

They give a table and then say what will happen to the lock table when these requests are made...

Transition 1 requests to UPDATE row 1 in table B

Table-
Transaction - 1
Granule type - row
Granule ID - table B row 1
Lock type - read

I understand that a read lock cannot be updated so what will happen to the table or will an error message just appear?
