Use of UTL_FILE Package on remote server

Hi All,

This is my first post on this forum :)

I have a system setup in which there are 2 servers i.e. UNIX and DB server.

Now, I'm making use of UTL_FILE package of oracle to write into a file on UNIX server.

I'm getting the error "ORA-29283: invalid file operation" as the database is residing on the other server.

Probably the UNIX server is denying access to the oracle user which is trying to write into a file located remotely i.e. UNIX.
In this case I should have got invalid path error rather than invalid file operation (this is just my assumption).

so, is there any way to resolve this issue i.e. using UTL packages of oracle to write to a file located on a remote server.

I have come across many forums which says NO to my question, but I think there should be some way out:rolleyes:

Some people have said that the solution would be writing to a file locally i.e. on the DB server then do FTP for that file to the remote server. But unfortunately, I don't have access to DB server :(

Thanks in advance for your help.

Best Regards,
Supreeth K
