Sybase Database blockings

$
0
0
I have recently started using Sybase , as one of the legacy applications that I work on uses Sybase . Very often I would see the application is freezing up , which I have traced back to blockings on the Database w.r.t 3 tables , when a frontend user does an ALL/ALL/ALL search .
I have been told that this has been an application problem for quite some and there are no solutions available for it( which is unacceptable to me and I cannot live with this ) . Can someone recommend things to look into or a probable solution for avoiding such blocking scenarios , without making any changes to the Frontend ( like limiting the search capability etc.)

P.S :- I am not a DBA .

Access query results in a unbound Text box

$

I have created a query that calculates the difference between 2 dates and then based on the results gives me a "Required" "Not required" result. My query works fine.

Query code used:
FTSW Check: DateDiff("yyyy",[adsd],[report_date])
FTSWREQUIRED: IIf([ftsw check]<2,"FTSW REQUIRED","NOT REQUIRED")

My problem is that I need the "Required" "Not required" to populate in my text box on my form.
I have tried dlookup but it only works for the first record and then duplicates the response to all records.
I think I need to create an AfterUpdate() but I'm struggling to figure out how to write the code in VBA.
Can anyone help me.

Output current record to report

$

I'm attempting to Output a single record to a report. I think I'm close on the code but I'm just missing the mark. I can get it to bring up the output to menu but after I select the format I get Microsoft Access cannot find the object'|1'
Here is my code:
Dim strOriginalRecordSource As String
Dim strNewRecordSource As String

strOriginalRecordSource = Me.RecordSource
strNewRecordSource = "SELECT * FROM CDB WHERE [LAST_NAME] ='" & Me![LAST_NAME] & "'"

Me.RecordSource = strNewRecordSource
DoCmd.OutputTo acOutputForm, "ICDP", , False
Me.RecordSource = strOriginalRecordSource

If I change the line of code from outputto to the following it works:
DoCmd.OpenReport "ICDP", acViewPreview, , "[LAST_NAME] = '" & Me![LAST_NAME] & "'" or
DoCmd.OpenReport "ICDP", acnormal, , "[LAST_NAME] = '" & Me![LAST_NAME] & "'"

Any assistance would be much appreciated

Dates Between -- The July 31st Problem.

$
0
0
Is it me, or am I losing my mind:

I kept missing two July 31st records with the following query:

>= #7/01/2017# and <= #7/31/2017#

OR

between #7/01/2017# and #7/31/2017#

BUT

I got all the records by comparing the datevalue of a table date (i.e. datevalue(([adate]) with specified date values such as :

between datevalue( #7/01/2017#) and datevalue(#7/31/2017#)

OR

>= datevalue(#7/01/2017#) and <= datevalue(#7/31/2017#)

The underlying SQL looks like this:

SELECT qryUserUsage.Menage, [depuis] FROM qryUserUsage
WHERE (((DateValue([depuis])) Between DateValue(#7/1/2017#) And DateValue(#7/31/2017#)));

I think I intuitively understand: dates are in fact numbers, and even short dates entered into tables probably encode the dates and times together. Thus a date entered earler in the day would in fact have a different number from a date entered later in the day (or even a specified date such as #7/31/2017#, depending on how a date number is assigned (or when it is entered??), Datevale, I gather, is providing a value based on the string value of the short date (and time is ignored).

Thoughts? Makes one feel stupid, especially after working (as a volunteer) on a food bank's data bases for two year.

PostGreSQL unix timestamp value comparison

Hi,

How to compare between two dates in Postgresql having row value with unix timestamps.

for example : table > ABC
Column name > created_date -datatype bigint -
Value -1395742273234 (unixtimestamps)

I am getting actual datetime from unix timestamps with following syntax.
Select to_char(to_timestamp(1395742273234 /1000),'yyyy-MM-dd HH:mm:ss');

output : 2014-03-25 03:03:13

I want to get results between two dates ( 2014-03-25 03:03:13 and 2014-03-30 03:55:13) but no results. Please guide.

Thanks

Delete CASCADE or Set Nul ?

$

Hello everybody

I would be interested to know your experience on the implementation of the "delete cascade" on tables with very high volumetry and/or lot of indexes
The question is: have you ever encountered "deadlock" related to cascading delete in the underlying tables.
Do you recommand the "delete set nul" option (an batch deletion at off-peak hours) in the case of tables with very high volumetry or whose underlying tree is important ?
In advance thank you for your feedback :)

SQL to calculate sum variance of a column value from previous date to current date

$
0
0
I have table1 and table2 as follows:

table1 columns: tr_key, PROC_DATE and MTM_VALUE and more...

table2 columns: tr_key, APP_ID and more .... tr_key is the common column between the two tables to join.

None of the above mentioned columns are key primary key.

My requirement is build a sql to determine the sum difference of a column (MTM_VALUE) of 1st max date (proc_date) and 2nd max date(proc_date). There are multiple rows for each proc_date.

Table1
Proc_date MTM_Value Tr_key
2017-08-14 10 KeyValue
2017-08-14 25 KeyValue
2017-08-14 20 KeyValue
2017-08-14 15 KeyValue
2017-08-11 100 KeyValue
2017-08-11 150 KeyValue
2017-08-11 200 KeyValue
2017-08-11 100 KeyValue

Table2
APP_ID TR_KEY
ABC keyvalue
XYZ keyvalue
PRQ keyvalue

Expected RESULT of SQL:
===============
Proc_date sum(MTM_Value) Percent Variance
2017-08-14 70 (70-550) * 100 / 550
2017-08-11 550 (550 - xxx) * 100 / xxx <== xxx indicates values for next proc_date

Hey all I have the following SQL Query that I am using in order to get comma separated values from a cell:

Code:

WITH cte AS(
    SELECT
        uT.id AS UID,
                uT.employeeID,
        uP.type,
                pP.name
    FROM
                usersTbl AS uT
    CROSS APPLY
                dbo.DelimitedSplit8K(uT.userPerms,',') AS uPcommaItems
    INNER JOIN
                usersPermissions uP ON uP.id = uPcommaItems.Item
        CROSS APPLY
                dbo.DelimitedSplit8K(uT.userPermPages,',') AS pPcommaItems
    INNER JOIN
                pagePermissions pP ON pP.id = pPcommaItems.Item
)
SELECT DISTINCT
        UID,
    employeeID,
    STUFF(
                        (
                                SELECT
                                        ',' + stuff1.type
                                FROM
                                        cte AS stuff1
                                WHERE
                                        t.UID = stuff1.UID
                                FOR XML PATH(''), TYPE
                        ).value('.', 'NVARCHAR(MAX)'), 1, 1, ''
                  ) AS userPermissions,
        STUFF(
                        (
                                SELECT
                                        ',' + stuff2.type
                                FROM
                                        cte AS stuff2
                                WHERE
                                        t.UID = stuff2.UID

                        ).value('.', 'NVARCHAR(MAX)'), 1, 1, ''
                  ) AS pagePermissions
FROM
        cte AS t

The userTbl table looks like this:
Code:

------------------------------------------------
ID    | employeeID | userPerms | pagePermPAges
------------------------------------------------
15    | 3FdFieu9I  | 1,3      | 1,4,5,6

The userPermissions table looks like this:
Code:

----------------
ID | type
----------------
1  | Read
2  | Write
3  | Upload
4  | Admin

And this is my pagePermissions table looks like:
Code:

----------------
ID | name
----------------
1  | bindex
2  | flight
3  | submit
4  | form
5  | information
6  | myPage
7  | register

My current output of the query above is this:
Code:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
ID    | employeeID | userPermissions                        | pagePermissions
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
15    | 3FdFieu9I  | Read,Read,Read...upload,upload,upload...| Read,Read,Read...upload,upload,upload...

It should read this though:
Code:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------
ID    | employeeID | userPermissions | pagePermissions
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
15    | 3FdFieu9I  | Read,Upload    | bindex,form,information,myPage

Hi

when I am executing this statement I am getting 18 rows(which is correct).
select * from Table1 t1,Table2 t2 where t1.ID=t2.ID;

but when I am storing result in to temp table #temp I am getting 2942928 rows in temp table(which is replication of above 18 rows)
select * into #temp from Table1 t1,Table2 t2 where t1.ID=t2.ID;

Anybody knows what may be the issue?
